Goldman Sachs Asset Management (AM) is one of the world’s leading investment managers, overseeing $3 trillion in assets. The Asset Management UX team is at the forefront of a fundamental shift: we are evolving from a traditional design function into a design + build system. In this model, designers do more than create interfaces; they define the infrastructure, logic, and code-aware patterns that power a multi-billion-dollar platform landscape.
We are looking for a highly motivated, versatile Product Designer specialized in design systems to help us scale and future-proof our enterprise infrastructure. This is not a maintenance role. You will own and evolve a system that balances global consistency with local product flexibility across one of the most complex financial ecosystems in the world. We are seeking an AI-native designer—an innovative professional who treats Artificial Intelligence as a foundational tool rather than an add-on. You will integrate AI into the core of your design process to accelerate workflows, automate documentation, and explore generative UI patterns.
What you'll do
- Own and Evolve a Large-Scale Design System: Drive the structure, governance, and scalability of our system across diverse use cases, ensuring it meets the needs of both internal power users and global clients.
- Push Visual Quality to a High Bar: Define and refine visual language across typography, color, and spacing, ensuring the system produces polished, premium outputs that reflect the Goldman Sachs brand.
- Bridge Design and Engineering: Act as a “builder-thinker,” collaborating closely with front-end engineers to align design tokens and components with production code.
- Integrate AI into the Design Workflow: Identify and implement AI tools to accelerate design-to-build workflows, experimenting with AI-assisted generation, documentation, and prototyping.
- Enable Teams at Scale: Create clear documentation and contribution models that allow product teams to adopt and extend the system autonomously.
- Define the Future State: Drive forward-thinking ideas on the future of design systems, including tokens, multi-platform automation, and AI-driven UI.
What we're looking for (Basic qualification)
- 5+ Years of Industry Experience: Proven expertise in product or visual design with a heavy focus on large-scale design systems.
- System Architecture Mastery: Deep understanding of tokens, theming, component logic, and how design translates into code frameworks (e.g., React).
- Figma Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Figma is a must, including expert use of variables, auto-layout, and library management to build and maintain scalable, high-fidelity design systems.
- AI-Native Mindset: Demonstrated experience integrating modern AI tools (e.g., generative UI, automated documentation, design-to-code) into your daily workflow.
- Strong Visual Craft: A portfolio that demonstrates a sharp eye for detail, modern UI aesthetics, and the ability to handle high-density data environments.
- Design-to-Build Fluency: Comfort working close to the code and a good understanding of engineering constraints and implementation patterns.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in financial services or other highly complex, regulated domains.
- Exposure to multi-brand or multi-platform systems (Web, iOS, Android).
- Experience transforming design workflows through new tooling or automation.
- Active contributions to the broader design system or open-source communities.
What makes this role different
- Scale & Complexity – few design systems operate at this level of breadth, supporting tools that move markets.
- Real Impact – your work directly shapes the tools used by our investment professionals and global institutional clients.
- Transformation Focus – we are actively redefining the “designer” role into a “builder” role, moving away from static screens toward living systems.
- AI-First Direction – you will pioneer how AI changes the design practice within a premier global enterprise.
How we evaluate candidates
- Systems Thinking over Screens – your ability to solve for the ecosystem, not just the individual page.
- Complexity Management – how you handle trade-offs between consistency and product-specific needs.
- Engineering Influence – your ability to speak the language of developers and influence technical implementation.
- Future Vision – your perspective on how AI and automation will fundamentally change the design-to-build pipeline.
