The predicted salary is between 90000 - 120000 £ per year.

Applications are invited for one full-time (1.0 WTE) Locum Consultant Interventional Radiologist. The post has arisen to cover maternity leave to start Oct 2025.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in diagnostic and interventional radiology and will have experience in the following techniques: general vascular and endovascular procedures, reno-vascular interventions including dialysis access, gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions. The candidate will require experience in embolization to support the on-call service (e.g., GI bleeding, trauma embolization, uterine artery embolization for post-partum haemorrhage etc.). The candidate should be able to perform peripheral arterial and venous interventions including to support the current service demand at St Mary's Hospital.

Rapid access to imaging and scan turnaround times, whilst delivering a safe and high-quality service are key priorities. A further key objective of the directorate is to provide robust radiology trainee supervision to both core and senior IR trainees and it is anticipated that the post holder will make an active contribution to this. The post holder will also be required to join an on-call rota for out of hours emergencies. The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology and be on the GMC Specialty Register (or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT at the time of interview).

Main duties of the job include:

  • The post will allow for maintenance of the IR service resilience particularly at the CXH/HH sites which has enhanced service delivery and thereby reduced waiting times for the renal vascular service at HH, cancer services on both sites and the urology service at CXH.
  • The post will be split between Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals with some flexible working at St Mary's Hospital as required.
  • The appointee will be expected to contribute to the general reporting work in the department, including CT/MRI and plain radiographs.
  • Assistance to the overall radiology team in the delivery of the cross-site "duty" rota which is in place to support rapid IP/ED reporting performance and trainee supervision.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Whole-time contract (Total of 10 PAs of activity) to comprise the following:
  • Clinical Activities: 9 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)
  • Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PA per week.
  • The Consultant IR team is currently transitioning to a more flexible working week to allow for more robust coverage of all IR sessions across the Trust. A number of IR sessions will be fixed and others to be worked flexibly depending on colleague leave.
  • On-call: An additional 2 PAs for on-call. The on-call will be at the CXH/HH site.
  • The applicant will have experience in some or all of the following techniques:

    • Vascular: endovascular - aortic and peripheral, reno-vascular interventions including dialysis access.
    • Non-vascular: Gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions.

    Ideally the candidate will be able to perform aortic and peripheral arterial and venous interventions including EVARs and TEVARs to support the current demand at St Mary's Hospital, although this is not an essential prerequisite. The candidate will require experience in embolization to support the on-call service (e.g. uterine artery embolization for post-partum haemorrhage, GI bleeding, trauma embolization etc.). An interest in training and research is strongly encouraged in accordance with the strategic aims of the Academic Health Sciences Centre.

    • Qualifications:
    • On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice.
    • On GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration.
    • Appropriate Royal College Membership.
  • Knowledge:
    • Formal subspecialty training in interventional radiology.
    • Ability to perform a wide range of interventional procedures.
    • IT Skills and computer literacy.
    • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority.
    • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues.
    • Knowledge of finance/budgets.
    • Management of staff.
    • Teaching & Training experience of teaching and training undergraduates/post-graduates and junior medical staff.
    • Audit understanding of principles of clinical audit.
    • Academic achievements evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at ICHT.
  • Language: Are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements.
  • This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

    Depending on experience: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum WTE.
