Dow Jones is seeking an experienced, digitally minded news professional to drive growth and engagement on NewsPlus, its web portal for financial professionals. NewsPlus highlights the top company, markets, economic and policy news from Dow Jones Newswires for top-tier users at banks, brokerages and financial services firms.
In this role, you will directly manage a small team of NewsPlus Platform Editors based in Barcelona and/or London. The team works on a shift-based system curating articles for the NewsPlus platform, web publishing breaking news from the wires, and compiling newsletters. The deputy chief editor must have a solid understanding of corporate, economic and markets news and be able to guide the team about which stories to highlight and which to skip. You will confidently navigate coverage requests from editors at The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires and model quick and concise communication in team chats. You will regularly collaborate with NewsPlus leaders in Asia and New York to ensure alignment of global workflow. The position reports to NewsPlus’s global chief, who is based in New York.
As a senior newsroom leader, you will demonstrate strong written English, excellent news judgment, a close eye for detail, solid organizational and prioritization skills, and an exceptional ability to manage content as well as people.
You will:
- Monitor real-time news flow and spot top headlines across regions, with the ability to efficiently prioritize and summarize into smart briefs.
- Use CMS tools to tag and optimize content across the NewsPlus platform.
- Collaborate with reporters and editors from teams throughout Dow Jones, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s and MarketWatch.
- Adeptly use digital messaging tools to flag the right stories to the right teams and be highly responsive to incoming requests.
- Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics.
- Understand the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires, and help connect the content with the audience.
You have:
- A minimum of five years experience in a directly relevant role, preferably with management skills.
- A well-honed sense of urgency along with a capacity to remain calm under pressure.
- The ability to prioritize tasks and time while handling multiple responsibilities.
- A collaborative mindset and a finely honed awareness of how a newsroom works.
