Newham CAMHS is a large and vibrant specialist child and adolescent mental health service with a reputation for innovation and flexibility in meeting the complex mental health support needs of Newham's children, young people and families. It is centrally located on one site in Plaistow, Newham, and provides an extensive and growing range of services. The age range is 0 to 18. The service aims to offer a holistic assessment and treatment service to children and young people with complex, severe or persistent emotional, behavioural or developmental problems, to support their families and to consult to community professionals.
Newham CAMHS comprises several multidisciplinary teams based upon care pathways including:
- Front Door Team - Triage and Brief Treatments
- Neurodevelopmental Team - ADHD & Learning Disability Team
- 2 Emotional & Behavioural Teams including the under 5's pathway and parent infant psychotherapy
- Adolescent Mental Health Team
- Paediatric Liaison Team
- Well Being in Newham Schools (WINS - formerly known as MHST)
Main duties of the job include:
- Providing Senior Leadership.
- Contributing to the planning and ongoing development of community services.
- In partnership with colleagues, developing common clinical policies and guidelines for the teams.
- Working alongside the Service coordinator to identify areas of unmet need.
- Collaborating with the Associate Clinical Director and Service Manager in the development of community-based services in line with commissioning requirements and service development plan.
- Active involvement in the Healthcare Governance programme for East London Foundation NHS Trust.
- Participating in the planning, distribution and allocation of clinical, administrative, professional and managerial tasks.
- Attending and participating in regular meetings as described in the job plan.
- Recording of clinical activity and prompt submission of returns in line with service requirements.
- Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous medical notes in line with the Trust's record keeping policy.

Person Specification:
- Education/Qualification/Training Essential: Full GMC registration, MRCPsych parts 1&2 or equivalent, Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in appropriate specialty (or within 6 months), Higher academic degree.
- Experience Essential: Possesses an extensive range of clinical knowledge and excellent clinical skills, Experience of assessment and management of CYP with complex mental health disorders.
- Knowledge and Skills Essential: Concerned to maintain and develop this knowledge, Displays sound professional judgement, Exercises sound clinical risk management, Sees patients within a holistic context, Creative in the design and implementation of treatment programmes, Appreciation and understanding of transcultural and gender issues in psychiatry, Shows an approach based on critical enquiry and evidence-based practice, Able to balance competing demands and prioritise.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills Essential: Strong leadership and co-ordination skills with ability to direct and organise teams, Excellent communication skills with a range of different people, Ability to build effective relationships with patients, families, colleagues and other professionals, Ability to cope with considerable pressure and adapt to constant change and new demands, Shows enthusiasm and initiative in pursuing innovation and the highest standards for patients, juniors, colleagues and the organisation.
