We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in complex enclosure design to join our team. Our work spans a wide range of demanding applications, from electric field sensors for deep ocean exploration to high-power electric motors and converters. Operating in integrated product teams, our engineers are engaged throughout the entire product development lifecycle - from initial concept through to final delivery.
In this role, you will work closely with our Mechanical Design team and cross-functional engineering specialists to create robust mechanical solutions that support our cutting-edge defence products.
The Role:
- Leading mechanical design and proving activities across piece parts and assemblies for both prime and variant products.
- Supporting manufacturing processes and resolving production issues and design-related defects.
- Collaborating on environmental and functional testing, including on-site trials.
- Engaging with suppliers and the procurement team to resolve technical queries.
- Managing and reporting on your daily engineering activities to support project delivery.
- Contributing to the development and clarification of engineering requirements to optimise design simplicity, cost, and lead time.
- Hosting or participating in detailed design reviews with multi-functional engineering teams.
What are we looking for in our next Principal Mechanical Design Engineer?
- Proven experience in Mechanical Design Engineering, ideally within a defence or high-integrity engineering environment.
- Proficient in Creo 3D CAD design tool.
- A strong understanding of a range of relevant engineering areas, including several of the following:
- Manufacturing processes & tolerance studies
- Mass property calculations & material selection
- Design for Manufacture/Assembly (DfM/A)
- FMEA & structural design
- Environmental gasket sealing & test procedures
- Defence standards and product lifecycle knowledge
- Industrial validation and review processes
