Title: Planning Manager Location: Cumbria (hybrid) Salary: £90,000 + car allowance + bonus + package An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Planning Manager to spearhead the planning function for a leading main contractor on a long term, significant framework in Cumbria. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a key leadership role, where you\’ll manage a small, capable team of planners and work closely with operational, commercial, and client stakeholders to ensure programme certainty across a diverse range of technically challenging projects. You\’ll be responsible for the development, management, and control of project programmes using Primavera P6, ensuring they remain compliant with NEC contract requirements. From tender stage through to final delivery, you\’ll oversee programme updates, reporting, risk management, and delay analysis, playing a pivotal role in driving performance and project outcomes. To succeed in this role, you\’ll need proven experience as a Senior or Lead Planning Engineer within the water industry or a related infrastructure environment. A strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and the NEC form of contract is essential, alongside excellent communication and leadership skills. The Lead Planning Engineer will join a leading main contractor that\’s redefining the construction industry through innovation and embracing new cutting-edge technologies. Duties Lead the planning function for a large, multi-year framework programme Manage and mentor a small team of Planning Engineers, ensuring best practice and professional development. Develop, manage, and maintain comprehensive project programmes using Primavera P6. Work closely with operational, commercial, and design teams to integrate plans and support decision-making. Oversee programme updates, progress reporting, scenario planning and delay analysis. Ensure all programmes are compliant with NEC contract requirements. Identify project risks and opportunities, proposing effective mitigation strategies. Build strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and the wider project delivery team. Candidate Proven experience as a Lead or Senior Planning Engineer within the water industry Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 is essential. In-depth understanding of NEC contract conditions and programme management requirements. Experience managing or mentoring a small planning team. A collaborative leader with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project framework environment. Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
