I am currently working in partnership with a leading UK main contractor and supporting them with their search for a commercially astute and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team delivering a major capital works project in Newport, South Wales.
This is a pivotal commercial leadership role on a high-value, bespoke infrastructure scheme, offering long-term security and excellent career prospects. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, technically challenging projects across the UK.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take full end-to-end commercial responsibility for the project, acting as the commercial lead and primary interface with the client and supply chain. The role will be site-based three days per week, with flexibility for the remaining time.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full commercial management of a major capital works project from pre-construction through to final account
- Administration and management of NEC contracts, including change control, compensation events, and cost forecasting
- Leading cost reporting, CVRs, cashflow management, and risk/opportunity management
- Managing and developing a Cost Clerk, with potential oversight of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor
- Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team to ensure commercial and programme objectives are met
- Client engagement and contribution to commercial strategy on a bespoke, high-value scheme
Senior Quantity Surveyors considering this opportunity must be able to demonstrate:
- Proven experience operating at Senior QS level on major infrastructure, civil engineering or utilities projects
- Strong, hands-on experience working under NEC forms of contract
- Background with a main contractor delivering complex, high-value or bespoke projects
- Ability to lead commercial processes autonomously while mentoring junior team members
- Confident stakeholder management skills, particularly with clients and key subcontractors
- Experience in the water or utilities sector would be advantageous, though not essential.
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be offered an exciting position that comes with a competitive salary & package that includes:
- Starting salary £55,000 - £65,000 (depending on experience)
- £5,000 Car allowance or company car
- Private healthcare
- Pension scheme
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
