An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join one of the UK's leading infrastructure contractors delivering a complex and high value infrastructure project in Scotland. Valued at more than £2bn over the next 7 years, the project aims to improve the resilience of the region's power supply and forms part of a much larger, wider investment in Scotland's electricity transmission network.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll take responsibility for the commercial management of a significant section of the project, working closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager and wider delivery team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of your package of works.
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and management of project budgets.
  • Subcontract procurement, administration and account management.
  • Managing applications, valuations, payments and final accounts.
  • Identifying and managing change, variations and compensation events.
  • Supporting CVR and financial reporting processes.
  • Managing commercial risk and opportunities.
  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure commercial performance is maintained.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with the client, subcontractors and supply chain.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in major infrastructure, utilities, energy or civil engineering projects. You'll ideally have experience working on large-scale projects for a main contractor and be comfortable operating in a commercially demanding environment. Experience of NEC contracts would be particularly relevant, along with a strong understanding of subcontract management, change control, forecasting and commercial reporting. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can operate autonomously, communicate effectively with both commercial and operational teams, and take ownership of their area of the project.

Location & Flexibility

The project has a site office in Elgin, although there is considerable flexibility around where the successful candidate is based. You could be based in the Central Belt and travel to Elgin around 3 days per week (expenses paid), or potentially work from the contractor's Inverness office if that provides a more practical base. The project team is willing to be flexible around location and working arrangements for the right person, so if you're interested in the role but concerned about the logistics of working in Elgin, it's worth having a conversation.

What's on Offer?

  • £60,000 - £84,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Company car or car allowance
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Option to purchase up to 10 additional days
  • Pension
  • Private healthcare
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Opportunity to work on a major HV infrastructure project
  • Strong long-term career opportunities with a major UK infrastructure contractor

If you're an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a background in infrastructure, energy, utilities or civil engineering and would like to find out more, I'd be happy to have a confidential conversation. Apply now or get in touch for further information.
