An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Lead Planner / Senior Planner to join an established and highly respected construction consultancy with more than 40 years' experience delivering specialist services across the construction and engineering sectors. Based in London, the consultancy has built an impressive reputation for providing expert commercial management, planning, dispute resolution and Expert Witness services across some of the UK's most complex and challenging projects.
As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint an experienced planning professional who can play a key role in developing and expanding their planning capability. This is much more than a traditional planning position. Working closely with the senior management team, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of the planning offering, raise its profile within the market and demonstrate the value that high-quality planning expertise can bring to clients. You'll be involved in a diverse range of construction and infrastructure projects, providing strategic planning advice while developing strong, long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
A significant part of the role will be focused on developing and mentoring the planning team, helping to establish best practice, support the development of junior planners and strengthen the consultancy's overall planning proposition. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to business development, identify new opportunities and help shape the future direction of the planning function.
We're looking for an experienced planning professional with a strong UK construction and infrastructure background, combined with the ambition and confidence to take on greater responsibility. You'll be comfortable engaging with clients and senior stakeholders, able to communicate complex planning matters clearly, and have the commercial awareness to understand how planning can support wider project and business objectives.
This role would suit an experienced Senior Planner looking to step up into a Lead Planner position, or an established Lead Planner who is looking for greater influence, autonomy and the opportunity to help shape a growing consultancy offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the consultancy's planning function, working closely with the senior management team.
- Provide high-quality planning advice across complex construction and infrastructure projects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Support business development and help raise the profile of the consultancy's planning services.
- Identify new opportunities and contribute to the continued growth of the planning offering.
- Lead, mentor and develop junior and intermediate planning professionals.
- Establish and promote best practice across planning processes and project delivery.
- Prepare and review programmes, programme analysis and planning reports.
- Provide strategic planning advice to clients and project stakeholders.
- Support wider commercial, dispute resolution and Expert Witness engagements where appropriate.
- Represent the consultancy at client meetings and industry events.
- Work alongside senior management to shape the future strategy and direction of the planning function.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience within a UK construction and infrastructure planning environment.
- Strong background gained across major and complex construction or infrastructure projects.
- Previous consultancy experience would be advantageous, although strong main contractor or client-side backgrounds will be considered.
- Excellent understanding of construction planning, programming, sequencing and programme analysis.
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing, mentoring or developing other planning professionals.
- Commercially aware with an understanding of how planning contributes to wider project and business objectives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ambition and confidence to take ownership of a growing planning function.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant construction, engineering or planning qualification desirable.
