Location: Flexible UK office base with hybrid working (Bristol, Cardiff, Portsmouth, Plymouth, North West).
We are recruiting Submarine Safety Consultants to join a growing Employee Owned consultancy supporting critical programmes across the UK Nuclear Defence sector. These roles offer the opportunity to work at the heart of submarine safety, supporting high-profile clients while helping to shape and develop consultancy services within key accounts.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in providing safety support within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise, including those transitioning from the Royal Navy Submarine Service, MOD, SDA, or the Tier 1/2 suppliers as well as existing Safety Consultants already working in industry. If you have any experience in safety case authorship, hazard analysis, and stakeholder engagement, you will be supported in your transition into consultancy through structured mentoring and professional development.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver submarine safety consultancy support across Defence Nuclear programmes
- Develop and review safety artefacts, including safety cases, hazard logs, and supporting documentation
- Facilitate and contribute to HAZID workshops and risk assessments
- Support regulatory engagement and assurance activities
- Manage and deliver complex technical projects, including multiple concurrent workstreams
- Engage effectively with clients, providing high levels of technical assurance and professional advice
- Contribute to the development of consultancy services and long-term client relationships
- Existing safety or engineering experience within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (e.g. RN Submarine Service, MOD, SDA, or defence suppliers)
- Strong working knowledge of Defence Safety Authority regulations, Defence Nuclear Safety Regulations, Naval Authority Certification
- Proven experience in safety case development and hazard analysis
- Experience managing and delivering complex technical projects
- Desirable experience includes:
- Nuclear SQEP
- Consultancy experience (client-facing delivery, time and budget management, proposal input)
- Bid development and successful capture experience
- Client relationship management and development of enduring workstreams
- Hazard and risk analysis techniques (e.g. SWIFT, HAZOP, FMECA, FTA, LOPA)
- Independent Safety Auditor / Advisor experience
- SEMT or SSMO qualification
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) and membership of a relevant professional institution
- Professional, adaptable, and able to integrate quickly into a flexible consultancy team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high standard of English and grammar
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, particularly in hybrid working environments
- Confident engaging with senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies
- Committed to delivering high-quality, responsible safety advice
Due to the nature of the work, eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance is required.
