Senior Mechanical EngineerLocation: PeterboroughSalary: £50,000 to £75,000 + car & package
A major engineering contractor is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its established design team. This role is positioned on large-scale infrastructure projects with significant long-term impact. It offers scope to lead design delivery on high-value schemes while working in a hybrid capacity from their project office in Peterborough.
Role OverviewThe Senior Mechanical Engineer will report to the Principal Engineer and carry responsibility for delivering efficient, compliant mechanical designs that minimise risk and support safe, cost-effective construction and commissioning. The role requires close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure integration of design across all disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce mechanical design layouts that are practical, economical, and contract-compliant.
- Coordinate design with internal and external stakeholders to achieve integrated solutions.
- Provide design input, estimates, and technical feedback for bids and proposals.
- Apply and develop standard practices, processes, and procedures to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Monitor design work against health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Present technical proposals with confidence and authority.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering with extensive mechanical design experience (8-10 years at senior level).
- Proven track record in delivering mechanical designs within complex engineering environments.
- Understanding of water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with the capacity to manage multiple data sources.
- Clear, confident communicator with experience presenting technical proposals.
- Proficiency with mechanical design software and digital tools.
