The Opportunity
We’re looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Network Engineer to join a growing team based in Farnborough. This role is ideal for someone with strong Cisco routing & switching expertise who is also passionate about network automation and scripting. You will play a key role in designing, supporting and evolving a modern enterprise network, while helping drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency, scalability and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and support Cisco-based network infrastructure (LAN/WAN)
- Configure and troubleshoot routing and switching protocols (OSPF, BGP, VLANs, STP, etc.)
- Manage and optimise network performance, resilience and security
- Develop and maintain network automation solutions using Python and scripting tools
- Support infrastructure-as-code and automation frameworks (e.g. Ansible, REST APIs)
- Participate in network upgrades, migrations and transformation projects
- Monitor network health and proactively resolve issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across infrastructure, security and cloud
- Maintain clear technical documentation and standards
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routing & switching
- CCNP certified (or equivalent experience)
- Solid understanding of:
- TCP/IP networking
- Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- Switching technologies (VLANs, STP)
- Ansible, Terraform or similar automation frameworks
- Network monitoring tools (e.g. SolarWinds, PRTG)
Desirable
- Experience with SD-WAN or network virtualisation
- Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge of network security principles (firewalls, VPNs)
- Experience working in high-availability or regulated environments
