An Electrical Design Engineer is needed for a large facilities management organisation based in Manchester who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Electrical Design Engineer that takes pride in their work with an in-depth knowledge of electrical system designs across all RIBA stages, experience or a keen interest in solar PV system design and knowledge of decarbonisation solutions.
The successful candidate would need to be competent with the use of BIM/CAD and energy modelling software. Previous experience in multidisciplinary project teams would be a plus!

- Assist with Electrical system designs across all RIBA Stages that includes the design of low-carbon energy solutions, such as power distribution, solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and smart controls for the integration of heat pumps, and other energy-efficiency measures typical of sustainable retrofit into commercial, public-sector and mixed-use buildings.
- Practical experience or a keen interest in solar PV design, including ground-mounted systems and building-integrated solutions (BIPV).
- Ability to produce design drawings, schematics and calculations under supervision.
- Ability to develop load assessments, lighting design, cable calculations and equipment schedules.
- Proficient in AutoCAD with willingness to develop strong Revit/BIM capability.
- Support coordination of BIM and CAD-based design processes.
- Assist in preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Participate in design team meetings, capturing key actions and learning opportunities.
- Support and assist with risk reviews, design updates, and supplier engagement.
- Provide technical input during procurement and early-stage contractor liaison.
- Support internal teams with planning and funding application input.
- Assist in identifying design risks and contribute to risk mitigation strategies and update the design risk registers.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers for mentoring and guidance.
- Participate in design workshops and CPD sessions.
- Support knowledge-sharing within the team and adopt best practices.
- Liaise with the design and project delivery teams to ensure smooth progression into delivery.
- Experience in electrical services design, typically gained over several years.
- Previous participation in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Exposure to retrofit, decarbonisation, or low-carbon projects preferred.
- Solid understanding of Electrical systems.
- Awareness of low-carbon technologies (heat pumps, BMS, district heating).
- Basic knowledge of relevant standards e.g., CIBSE, PAS 2035, MCS, Building Safety Act, and UK building regulations.
- Competent with BIM/CAD tools and energy modelling software.
