- Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor - Large main contractor
- Project Value : £100m+ with c.£25-30m M&E value
I'm currently supporting a major UK main contractor with the appointment of a Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor to take the lead on the M&E commercial delivery of a major £100m+ commercial development in Darlington.
The project is a new-build commercial office for a government department, with the M&E package valued at approximately £25m to £30m.
M&E installation is due to commence in early next year, making this a key appointment as the project moves into the delivery phase.
This is a senior role with genuine responsibility.
You'll take overall commercial responsibility for the M&E package across the project, working closely with the wider project team and leading a small commercial team comprising of 1-2 Assistant Quantity Surveyors and a Quantity Surveyor.
The Role
You'll have responsibility for the commercial management and delivery of the full M&E package, working alongside mechanical and electrical engineers, planners, design managers, project managers and the wider site team.
Your responsibilities will include
- Taking overall commercial responsibility for the M&E installation
- Leading and developing a small commercial team
- Managing the commercial performance of the M&E works from pre-installation through to completion.
- Working closely with M&E engineering and design teams to manage scope, change and commercial risk.
- Managing subcontractors and supply-chain relationships.
- Cost reporting, forecasting and commercial reporting.
- Managing variations, applications, valuations and final accounts.
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
- Working closely with planning and project management teams to understand programme and delivery impacts.
- Supporting procurement and ensuring packages are commercially robust.
- Providing commercial input into project decisions and maintaining strong cost control throughout delivery.
About You
This role would suit an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor / Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor who has worked on sizeable building projects and is comfortable taking ownership of a significant M&E package.
You'll ideally have
- Strong mechanical or electrical experience as a QS within a main contracting or specialist subcontracting environment.
- Experience managing sizeable mechanical and electrical packages, ideally £20m+.
- Strong knowledge of subcontract procurement, valuations, variations, change control, forecasting and final accounts.
- Good understanding of the interface between M&E, construction, design and programme.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with senior project stakeholders.
- A relevant Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management qualification is desirable.
The Opportunity
This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who wants to move into a role where they have real ownership of the M&E commercial function on a major project, rather than simply managing individual packages.
You'll be joining an established M&E contracting business that employs more than 220 staff and with significant experience delivering complex mechanical and electrical packages.
There is also scope for longer-term progression beyond this project and exposure to large, complex major projects.
Package
- £6,700 car allowance
- Pension
- Private healthcare
- 26 days annual leave + bank holidays
- Darlington-based project
- Hybrid working (3 days site based / 2 days remote)
