School Caretaker / Site Manager – Colchester

Gold Education Recruitment are currently recruiting for a School Caretaker / Site Manager to join a school in Colchester from September 2026 on a temporary basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Caretaker, School Caretaker, Site Manager, Premises Manager or Facilities professional looking for their next opportunity within a school environment.

The successful candidate will help ensure the school site is safe, secure, clean and well maintained, while supporting the day-to-day running of the premises.

The Role

The School Caretaker / Site Manager will be responsible for

  • Supervising the school's cleaning team and monitoring standards.
  • Opening and securing the school buildings and acting as a keyholder.
  • Carrying out general caretaking, maintenance and first-line repairs.
  • Identifying and reporting maintenance and Health & Safety issues.
  • Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are clean, safe and well maintained.
  • Monitoring cleaning materials, equipment and site supplies.
  • Preparing the school site for events and activities.
  • Supporting emergency procedures including fire, flooding and break-ins.
  • Liaising with contractors, school staff and visitors.
  • Planning and prioritising day-to-day caretaking and premises duties.

About You

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, facilities, premises or site management role.

School experience would be advantageous, although candidates with relevant experience from other environments will also be considered.

You will need to be reliable, practical and organised, with good communication skills and the ability to work independently and take responsibility for maintaining a safe and secure site.
