Job Purpose
The Laundry & Kitchen Gas Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of commercial laundry, kitchen equipment and gas appliances across the organisation's care homes.
The role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, statutory gas safety inspections, and supporting homes to maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors, and colleagues.
The successful candidate will work closely with Facilities Managers & Estates Director, to minimise equipment downtime and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Laundry Equipment
- Install, service, maintain, and repair commercial washing machines, tumble dryers, ironers, and associated laundry equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify faults to minimise operational disruption.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Ensure all laundry equipment operates safely and efficiently.
- Advise Estates Director on equipment replacement, upgrades, and lifecycle planning.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and service records.
- Liaise with retailers and manufacturers to order spares using company account set up and complete repairs.
- Kitchen Gas Safety
- Service, inspect, and repair commercial gas appliances and associated systems.
- Carry out annual gas safety inspections and issue appropriate certification.
- Ensure compliance with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
- Identify and rectify gas-related faults and safety concerns.
- Respond promptly to emergency gas leak within company portfolio.
- Liaise with retailers and manufacturers to order spares using company account set up and complete repairs.
- Compliance & Health & Safety
- Ensure all work complies with current legislation, British Standards, and company policies.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and company vehicles are maintained in a safe condition.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture across all care homes.
Essential
- ACS Core Commercial Laundry Gas Safety (CCLNG1) for Laundry gas safety.
- The CCCN1 (Commercial Catering Core) or COCN1 (Core Commercial Gas Safety) is strictly required for Kitchen gas safety.
- Ability and authority to issue the CP42 record.
- Experience servicing and repairing commercial laundry equipment.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently across multiple locations.
- Good IT skills and experience using maintenance management systems.
- Experience working within healthcare, care homes, hospitals, or hospitality environments (Desirable).
- Frequent travel between care homes.
- Occasional out-of-hours work and emergency response.
