The post holder will be responsible for the care of residents and to work in a team environment to ensure good practices exist. They will deliver physical, psychological and social care to the frail elderly residents of the home and meet the needs while supporting the smooth running of the routines within the home.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with personal care duties including infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
  • Delivering a high level of personal and psychological care to all residents in a professional manner, administering care requirements to residents (e.g. medications, toileting, bathing).
  • Completing records to a satisfactory standard.
  • Supporting co-workers and senior staff on duty, acting as a team worker at all times for the benefit of the residents and staff.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Home in all dealings with visitors and the general public.
  • Ensuring the individual rights of residents and staff are safeguarded in accordance with the home’s philosophy of care.
  • Maintaining the highest possible levels of care by supporting/assisting clients with all aspects of daily living.
  • Assisting clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual).
  • Providing supervision and attention when needed, ensuring clients retain their comfort and dignity.
  • Paying particular attention to assisting clients who have limited mobility or physical/learning difficulties.
  • Assisting in the delivery of care for clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness.
  • Carrying out regular checks on clients at intervals determined by senior staff members.
  • Making and changing beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty.
  • Ensuring the Home’s resources are used appropriately.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment used by clients/relatives (e.g., wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles).
  • Ensuring the Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Company’s attention to detail philosophy.
  • If applicable, caring for clients’ clothing and rooms as named, and ensuring that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
  • Ensuring full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Assisting clients who need help during mealtimes (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements).
  • Assisting with serving of food/drinks as requested/required.
  • Escorting clients travelling to and from the Home (e.g. on social outings, hospital visits).
  • Undertaking any additional training and development programmes the Home may consider appropriate to enhance your contribution to the work at this home.
