About Bristol Waste Company: What we do is important – we’re here to keep Bristol, and beyond, clean, and safe. We do this for our city’s residents, workers, visitors, and businesses. Our work helps deliver Bristol’s sustainability targets in partnership with the council. Bristol Waste’s commercial operation, where we serve businesses and organisations across the region, is also growing. Our ambition is to provide good quality, value for money services, and we continue to deliver a social value impact worth more than £20 million every year. We want people who share our values and want to work with us to drive our business forward.
We’re looking for an HR Business Partner who’s energised by solving real business challenges through people. Someone who blends insight with influence, who can turn data into action, and who’s ready to partner with leaders to create a workplace where people do their best work.
What you’ll lead:
- Evidence‑based people solutions: You’ll use data, insight and curiosity to diagnose challenges, spot opportunities and design people strategies that genuinely move the dial.
- Operational performance: You’ll drive improvements in attendance and wellbeing, partnering with leaders to embed proactive, sustainable approaches to absence management.
- Engagement and retention: You’ll turn feedback into action, building engagement plans that strengthen culture, boost retention and create a workplace people want to stay and grow in.
- Organisational change: You’ll guide leaders through complex change including TUPE, restructures and transformation programmes, ensuring clarity, compliance and compassion at every step.
- Employee relations: You’ll take the lead on complex ER cases and provide expert oversight to ensure fair, consistent and values‑led outcomes.
You’ll be a confident partner who can challenge, coach and influence. You’ll be comfortable navigating complexity, balancing strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery, and shaping solutions that work in practice, not just on paper.
Purpose of the role:
To work proactively in partnership with organisation leaders, implementing HR strategies, ensuring the smooth operation of the HR Service Delivery Team, providing strong leadership in delivering cultural values and best practice throughout the organisation. The role requires the HRBP to provide expertise, advice and support in all generalist HR matters, guiding managers and their teams and providing professional, practical solutions to issues raised in line with policy and prevailing statutory requirements.

- Providing professional, expert advice and guidance to managers and their teams on a wide range of employment matters, with the aim of reducing risks, maintaining cultural harmony and maximizing organisational performance.
- Delivering HR strategies on time and in line with organisation requirements, budgets and other constraints.
- Contributing to and delivering key HR initiatives across the HR spectrum, including workforce planning, talent attraction, restructuring, resourcing, talent management, pay and reward, employee relations, employee engagement and performance management.
- Providing clear, timely and accurate information relating to KPI’s and other reportable information.
- Providing detailed and relevant analysis of key data relating to HR metrics and benchmarking activity, to ensure that HR reporting is accurate and effective.
- Maintaining a clear understanding and providing up to date knowledge of the legal framework within which HR operates, contributing to HR policy making in line with current legislation and keeping abreast of modern HR procedures and best practice.
- Commissioning services, projects or activity that supports the delivery of HR and departmental strategies and objectives; working with third party providers to ensure that services meet business needs and are delivered to agreed standards and timescales.
- Ensuring the smooth running of working groups to facilitate the delivery of HR policies, projects and initiatives.
- Supporting and contributing to the development and implementation of Bristol Waste Company’s pay and reward strategies, providing active support with pay negotiations, preparing relevant pay and benefits benchmarking analysis and other relevant processes associated with delivering the organisation’s pay and reward strategies.
- Developing and maintaining good relations with representative employee bodies such as Trade Unions.
- Working collaboratively with other HRBP’s to drive overall organisational performance and deputise for them when on leave.
- Supporting the People Director as required.
Our Benefits:
- Annual leave package of 25 days plus 8 bank holidays.
- Employer contribution of 5% into the company pension scheme.
- Support for Mental Health, including a BUPA Employee Assistance Programme that provides support covering Mental Health, Financial and Family related topics.
