Job Description
The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with Medical Providers and/or Medical Assistants with the examination and treatment of GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role is responsible for providing a variety of technical procedures and applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis for our GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role is responsible for performing and analyzing patient x-rays and reporting results to Medical Providers. Additional responsibilities include providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of GoHealth Urgent Care Centers.
In a collaborative manner, the Radiologic Technologist will provide support to Medical Providers, Medical Assistants, and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
Job Requirements
Education
- Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program required
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Work Experience
- Experience in a clinical setting preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire (obtained through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required
- Applicable state licensure as a Radiologic Technologist required
Essential Functions
- Responsible for x-ray services as needed
- Under the direction of the clinical provider, perform x-ray services for patients by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly
- Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipment and protected during use
- Assist patients who need a wheelchair
Patient Preparation and Rooming
- Inform technical staff of patient flow
- Prepare patients for examination, conduct interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, and confirm purpose of visit
- Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to the provider as needed
- Conduct point of care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to providers
Administrative
- Maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files
- Courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up on care
- Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain QA/QC logs for equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed
Other Responsibilities Include
- Medical Team Support: Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment; support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly
- Patient Care: Explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety
- Patient Positioning: Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging results
- Image Production: Adjust radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, cleaning of X-ray equipment, and manage necessary supplies
- Radiation Safety: Adhere to radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles
- Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures
- Image Management: Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing
- Knowledge of radiology equipment and safety hazards
- Positioning patients properly for X-ray procedures
- Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisors
- Infection control and radiological safety procedures
