This role is part of the e Bay Inhouse team, where you will be employed by DEPT® but embedded within e Bay.
JOB PURPOSE
At e Bay, what happens in culture is often reflected in what people are buying and selling.
As a cultural barometer, we have a unique opportunity to use social media to connect with communities in relevant, authentic and meaningful ways.
We're looking for a culture-obsessed Social Community Manager to help make e Bay a brand people want to engage with, talk about and champion.
You'll combine best-in-class community management with proactive social storytelling, ensuring e Bay has an active, engaging presence across our organic social channels.
You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day community engagement, publishing content, identifying reactive opportunities, monitoring social conversations and creating platform-native content that keeps e Bay relevant within culture.
Working closely with Social, PR, Customer Service and agency partners, you'll turn social insights into meaningful engagement whilst protecting and evolving the e Bay brand.
The ideal candidate is customer-obsessed, culturally curious, an exceptional copywriter and thrives in a fast-paced social environment where trends move quickly and opportunities appear every day.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Be the voice of e Bay across our organic social channels—present, authentic and human.
- Monitor conversations, mentions and audience sentiment across social platforms.
- Write timely, engaging responses that build relationships and foster community.
- Proactively engage with creators, sellers, communities and relevant third parties.
- Identify opportunities to spark conversation and increase community participation.
- Schedule/Publish approved organic content across e Bay UK and e Bay Live UK social channels.
- Develop reactive social content in response to cultural moments, PR activity, breaking news and trending conversations.
- Track emerging trends, audience conversations and community sentiment.
- Identify reactive opportunities, creator partnerships and user-generated content opportunities.
- Bring social trends, platform updates and cultural insights into regular team planning and newsroom sessions.
- Produce regular community and sentiment reporting with actionable recommendations.
- Moderate community conversations in line with agreed guidelines.
- Remove spam, bot activity and harmful content.
- Escalate reputational risks, sensitive conversations and customer issues where appropriate.
- Maintain e Bay's tone of voice and brand standards across every interaction.
- Work closely with Social, PR, Customer Service and agency partners to ensure consistent messaging and appropriate escalations.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for social-first storytelling.
- Contribute ideas that improve creative development, community engagement and social performance.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience managing social communities for a major brand or agency.
- Hands-on experience across Instagram, Tik Tok, You Tube, Facebook, Pinterest, Reddit and emerging platforms.
- Exceptional copywriting skills and the ability to adapt tone of voice across channels.
- Experience creating platform-native social content, particularly in Tik Tok.
- Strong understanding of internet culture, trends, memes, creators and online communities.
- Experience using social publishing, listening and community management tools.
- Excellent judgement when managing sensitive conversations and protecting brand reputation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate community conversations into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisation with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to emerging opportunities.
- A collaborative mindset with a proactive, creative approach to problem solving.
