Welcome to South Woodford! Nestled in one of East London's leafiest suburbs, our long‑established first‑opinion practice is looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join the team on a part‑time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet looking for a varied caseload, a supportive team and the chance to build lasting relationships with both clients and patients.

About Your New Role

We’re looking for someone who enjoys the independence that sole charge brings but also values collaboration on an average of 30 hours per week. You’ll work alongside our highly experienced Senior Vet on your crossover day and be supported by an exceptional nursing team who know the practice inside out.

You’ll become part of a close‑knit team that genuinely enjoys working together, where clinical discussions are encouraged and everyone pulls together to deliver the highest standard of patient care.

Your rota includes a 1 in 4 branch Saturday, a 1 in 8 Sunday rotation at our Wanstead Hospital and up to two bank holidays each year. Once you’re settled into the role, you’ll also join the last‑resort on‑call at Wanstead. To help you feel confident before your first hospital shift, we’ll include a dedicated hospital induction day as part of your onboarding.

Clinical support is never far away. Alongside the guidance of our experienced Regional Manager and Regional Head Vet, you’ll have the backing of our 24‑hour Wanstead Hospital for complex referrals and out‑of‑hours care, ensuring you can focus on providing the very best care for your patients.

South Woodford offers the best of both worlds. The practice is just an eight‑minute walk from the Central Line, making commuting into central London easy, while Epping Forest is only a short drive away when you’re ready to swap the city for a countryside walk. The bustling high street, packed with cafés, restaurants and independent shops, means there’s plenty to enjoy outside of work too.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence‑based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform GP surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate, comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary band for this position, depending on prior experience, is £45,000 to £72,000 (full‑time equivalent based on 40 hours per week).

  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays (pro‑rated if part‑time)
  • Generous relocation assistance (where applicable)
  • Up to £2,000 CPD budget every year plus up to 5 days’ paid CPD leave (pro‑rated if part‑time)
  • Private Medical Healthcare Insurance with Bupa
  • Colleague introduction reward (for the introduction of vets and RVNs)
  • 24‑hour Employee Assistance Programme
  • Medical cashback plan with refunds on many routine medical costs such as dental care, physiotherapy, optician, chiropractic fees, and more
  • Professional membership fees covered
