About your new role

Our beautiful Chalfont St Peter practice in Buckinghamshire has the opportunity for a vet who is looking for a first‑opinion GP position, on a part‑time basis.

Your average 20.12 hourly week is inclusive of a 1:3 branch Saturday morning and a 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota\’d to one bank holiday per year in Mandeville Hospital.

There can be flexibility in how your days in the week look, for example a shorter Monday and full Wednesday (9 am‑7 pm) or full Wednesday and shorter Friday. You will be working alongside another experienced vet on both days; this is NOT a sole charge position during the week.

There are NO on‑call requirements.

Chalfont St Peter has three consult rooms, separate dog and cat wards and is in a peaceful, picturesque village location. The practice is equipped with ultrasound facilities and has a huge garden and decked‑out area for breaks. You will be fully supported by two experienced vets, an excellent senior RVN, experienced nursing and reception staff, and an invaluable regional manager who have all worked in the practice for years.

The Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides out‑of‑hours support and has state‑of‑the‑art 24‑hr facilities including CT, excellent ultrasound, scopes, laparoscopic equipment and specialist services.

Branch veterinary surgeon duties

  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examine all pets presented and make management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence and GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within the boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes ensuring pets’ histories are accurate, comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Refer cases in a timely manner, first to a GVG Hospital when unable to undertake a case.
  • Help maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.

Location wise, Chalfont is within close proximity of London but not in the hustle and bustle, offering a quiet village with rural charm and easy access to city life. It is a 5‑minute drive from Gerrards Cross train station and within 50 minutes to London Liverpool Street.
