Welcome to Wanstead! Our impressive 24-hour site in East London has the perfect opportunity for an experienced RVN who loves all things hospital and wants to join a larger growing team.
About your new role!
This full-time (40 hours per week over 5 days) RVN position would be ideal for an experienced RVN who already has a couple of years under their belt and thrives in all departments within a hospital setting. You will have the opportunity to work between various departments in the hospital including theatre, ward, consults, and ECC. If you excel in one department as opposed to another, we will be happy to support you with any gaps in training, whether that be in ward or consult nursing, or more! If in the future you wish to develop your skills to step into a senior role, we also provide leadership training.
Wanstead not only has its own first opinion client base but also sees internal referral cases from the surrounding branches in East, North, and Central London, giving you a plethora of diverse cases a hospital RVN could dream of. There is fantastic diagnostic support at Wanstead, with a CT scanner, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery on site.
You will be working alongside a large team consisting of approximately 25 vets, 27 RVNs, 14 SVNs, 7 VCAs, and a large front of house team who are integral in maintaining excellent client care. You are fully supported by an established management structure including senior RVNs, 2 deputy head nurses, head nurse, head vet, and hospital manager.
As a hospital RVN, some of your duties will include:
- Carry out acting weekend Charge Nurse duties, as directed.
- Advise clients of post-operative discharge instructions, verbally and with print-outs and appropriate literature as directed.
- Ensure that correct medications are provided.
- Record details in clinical histories of any conversations with clients regarding fees, treatment options, or anything related to patient care.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned, packed, sterilised, and stored correctly when not in use.
- Carry out duties in accordance with shift guidance notes.
- Complete and maintain accurate records of hospitalised patients.
- Assist veterinary surgeons in theatre, with inpatient examinations and procedures, and during consultations, as and when required.
- Maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness, using standard operating procedures (SOPs) in all areas.
Your rota will include a 1:4 weekend rotation with TOIL and up to 3 bank holidays per year. You will be included in the last resort on-call rotation, but with 2 RVNs and 1 VCA on shift each night this is very much last resort!
Wanstead itself is on the outskirts of urban Essex but is close enough to rural life for that countryside relief. Transport links into London do not get better than a short walk to a Central Line tube station! Please be aware there is no on-site parking available and public transport is advised.
What we offer you:
- Your RVN salary band is £32,000 to £35,000 depending on prior experience and allowing room for growth within the role.
- 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays.
- CPD budget every year plus up to 2 days' paid CPD leave.
- Paid 30‐minute lunch breaks.
- The opportunity to join our private medical healthcare scheme at a reduced rate, plus medical cashback incentives.
- Relocation assistance (where applicable).
- Generous colleague introduction reward (for the introduction of vets and RVNs).
- 24‐hour Employee Assistance Programme.
- RCVS and BVNA fees covered.
- The opportunity to join our private medical insurance scheme at a reduced rate, as well as a medical cashback plan involving refunds on many routine medical costs such as dental care, physiotherapy, optician, chiropractic fees, and more.
