We are barking mad for Barking (sorry for the obvious pun there!) and the team are looking for an RVN to join them on a part‑time basis; between 2‑3 days per week.

On the outskirts of urban Essex, and within a 10‑minute drive of beautiful and bustling Wanstead is our first opinion GP Barking practice, where they are looking for an RVN to complete the team on a 3‑day week basis. If you were only looking for 2 days, this can be explored, with Friday being the mandatory day. This up to 3‑day week role between Wednesday to Friday (8 hours per day) includes a 1:2 branch Saturday afternoon and 1:10 Sunday rotation in Wanstead Hospital. You will be rota ‘d to 1 bank holiday per year. There are NO on‑call requirements. This is a sole charge RVN position, and we are looking for an RVN who is comfortable taking the bull by the horns by managing the day‑to‑day organisation of the practice alongside their vet, to ensure it’s running as smoothly as possible, and ready to tackle those days that aren’t quite so smooth!

Key Duties
  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence‑based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
  • Work alongside your RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and the clinic’s SOP’s are being actioned.
  • Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.

The salary band for this position inclusive of a weekend rotation, averaging 26.3 hours is £23,012.50 to £25,642.50 (£35,000 to £39,000 FTE) depending on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role. You will have the full support from your established trainee nurse, regional manager and regional head vet for any additional operational and clinical support you may need. Barking is also well supported clinically by Wanstead 24‑hour hospital that provides its surrounding branches with invaluable OOH and internal referral care. There is state of the art diagnostic support at Wanstead, including CT, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery all available on site.

If commuting via public transport, the practice is a mere 6‑minute walk from the Barking overground and circle line, making all other areas of London easily accessible. This role could be ideal for an RVN who thrives in a branch GP environment working between clinical nursing and building bonds with the clients, and perhaps now feels ready to step into a sole RVN position taking the reins of a practice, implementing fresh ideas.
