The Nursery cook is responsible for delivering daily wholesome, balanced meals to the farm’s on-site Day Nursery and Pre-School.
This role will place food hygiene, allergen control and food quality in the highest regard whilst following the menus, specifications and processes that are set.
Demonstrating knowledge and proficiency of all applicable food and beverage safety laws and regulations is a must, along with the ability to work as part of team.
As an integral part of the kitchen team, you will support more junior team member and also provide hands-on support to the wider Food & Beverage (F&B) Team to deliver key events throughout the farm’s calendar year.
Key Responsibilities
- Serving good quality food in a clean and welcoming environment placing the nursery children at the heart of the operation.
- Developing a professional relationship with the nursery manager and key staff, acting as an ambassador for Godstone Farm.
- To know and understand children’s dietary requirements and all food allergens, ensuring all other team members are informed, trained and understand its importance.
- Remaining within agreed meal budget costs by maintaining recipes as per specification sheets.
- Ensure that the kitchen operates within all relevant legislation ensuring compliance with licensing, hygiene and health and safety legislation/guidelines.
- Ordering, storing, and stock control of all recipe items, ensuring minimum wastage.
- Contribute towards menu developments and costings for farm park menu items, predominantly for events.
- Playing a part in the wider F&B team by operationally supporting key events throughout the year such as camping and fireworks. This will involve weekend and evening working.
- Train other team members to be proficient in the nursery cooking and food service provision so all periods of leave are adequately covered.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Farm Park and Department Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure all Health and Safety policies are adhered to and contribute to conducting risk assessments and audits for your areas of work.
- Key Requirements
- Level 3 Supervising Food Safety
- Clear knowledge of all allergens and experience of delivering a diverse menu with suitable alternatives.
- Experience of working in a kitchen environment is essential, ideally with experience of batch cooking or catering for large numbers.
- Experience in a customer facing role is advantageous.
- Great organisational and communication skills.
- Experience of forecasting for stock control/ordering.
- Ability to keep calm under pressure.

We require the job holder to be flexible to work weekends, bank holidays and evenings to support the rest of the operation if required, however this would be by exception.
