Base pay range

A rare opportunity has arisen for a passionate and hardworking Stud Hand to join a small but established and friendly team at Gainsborough Stud in Newbury, Berkshire (RG20). The successful candidate will play a vital role in the daily care and management of high-value bloodstock, contributing to the success of a world-class breeding operation. This position demands professionalism, reliability, and a deep commitment to the welfare and development of the horses under your care.

Responsibilities

  • The main sitting up person during the foaling season
  • Assisting with all aspects of stud work, including foaling, breeding, and general horse care
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organisation within the yard
  • Ensuring the health and wellbeing of mares and foals through attentive care

About You

  • You will have previous sitting up/ foaling experience
  • A flexible attitude to working hours, as night working is essential for this role
  • Prior experience in a stud or breeding environment is essential
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Sound knowledge of equine behaviour and handling techniques
  • A genuine passion for the industry and a desire to uphold its highest standards
