The Godolphin and Latymer School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools for girls, located on a six acre site in Hammersmith, London. The students at Godolphin and Latymer receive unrivalled academic and pastoral support and outstanding examination results are achieved.
An opportunity has arisen for a suitably skilled applicant to join the school as a Food Technology Technician, to primarily support the teaching within the Technology Department with special focus on Food Preparation and Nutrition. Although experience in this type of role would be highly advantageous, it is not a pre-requisite at this time.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and time management skills. They will be able to set up equipment and materials competently and efficiently within a set timeframe. They will need to possess or acquire, with help from the school, the required level of knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation and risk assessment. They will be environmentally aware, maintaining the ethos of the department through the policy of reducing, reusing and recycling. They will be organised to keep track of stock and orders and enjoy working and supporting students with practical work.
The post-holder duties will include:
- Shopping for or the ordering of materials and equipment
- The tidying and cleaning of the food preparation areas of the classroom
- Supporting teachers and students in practical lessons
- General assistance that allows the teachers to deliver lessons smoothly
The working hours are 25 hours per week during the term time (this is approximately 35 weeks per year). The successful candidate will be required to work the complete week in which each term starts and finishes. Exact working hours may vary year on year and will be discussed on appointment.
All staff are expected to contribute to the thriving extra‑curricular programme on offer at the School. The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application.
All staff working in the School during the school day will have some contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. In this role you are likely to be regularly working directly with, and be responsible for, children in your care. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self‑declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are ‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
