We are recruiting an Assistant Accountant for an excellent established commercial business in Belfast. Join a dynamic and fast-paced finance team where no two days are the same. This Assistant Accountant role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of a high-performing business unit, supporting financial reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. Reporting to a Financial Reporting & Control Accountant, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate financial insights and helping drive business performance.

We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and motivated to grow - someone who enjoys working in a constantly evolving environment and is always looking for ways to improve processes and add value.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare month-end journals, including operating costs, capital expenditure, accruals, prepayments, and reallocations
  • Complete a wide range of Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reconciliations, with clear variance analysis
  • Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for senior management
  • Extract, interpret, and analyse data from internal billing systems
  • Assist with monthly and annual forecasting processes
  • Perform cash flow analysis and forecasting
  • Support Accounts Payable activities, including invoice and purchase order approvals
  • Produce cost centre reports and provide meaningful variance analysis
  • Assist with both internal and external audits
  • Deliver ad-hoc financial analysis to support business decisions
About You:

You’re someone who thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work. Your CV should demonstrate:

  • At least 2 years’ recent experience in a similar accounting role
  • Hands-on experience using accounting systems
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent time management and communication skills

It would also be preferable but not essential if you also have:

  • An Accounting Technician qualification or are part-qualified (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
  • Experience with SAP and/or Workday
  • Previous experience within the energy or utilities sector
