Overview
Situated in the heart of Ickenham, a village in Greater London, this established practice is looking for a vet who thrives in being part of the community and is the “go to” vet for their beloved pets.
Role details
This is a sole charge position with a perfectly manageable caseload for a GP first opinion vet to step into. You will balance morning consultations, perform routine surgeries during the day, catch up on admin and then round up with afternoon consultations.
You will be fully supported by an incredible support team including Dawn and Alison, who have been at the practice for over 20 years and are proud of the reputation the practice has built. You will also be supported by a dedicated regional manager and a regional head vet to assist with clinical and operational needs.
The rota for this role is 9am–5pm, 4 days per week with Wednesdays off. It includes a 1:3 branch Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation, in addition to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Mandeville Hospital. There are no on-call requirements.
As a sole charge branch vet, some duties include
- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence, and in accordance with GVG protocols.
- Perform surgery on appropriate cases within the boundaries of personal competence and overnight care limitations.
- Maintain, prescribe and dispense medications in accordance with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
- Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure pets’ histories are comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
- Refer cases in a timely manner, when necessary, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital.
- Help maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
- Work alongside the RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and clinics’ SOPs are actioned.
- Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.
Mandeville Hospital in Northolt is a short drive away for more advanced surgeries, workups or overnight hospitalisation. There is state-of-the-art diagnostic support, including a new CT scanner, a diploma holder in imaging for CT and ultrasound services, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons performing advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery on-site.
Ickenham’s location is ideal with two main access roads including the M25, yet it has a quaint community village feel. Ickenham also has an underground tube station on the Metropolitan line, with routes to central London.

Salary and benefits
The salary band for this sole charge role averaging 35.45 hours per week, inclusive of weekend rotation, is £53,175 to £79,762 per annum (£60,000 to £90,000 full-time equivalent based on a 40-hour week), dependent on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role.
