Wanstead Hospital is looking for a senior GP veterinarian with a hospital background to lead our GP team on a full‑time basis. The role requires client focus, high clinical standards and strong leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high and improving standard of evidence‑based clinical care among GP colleagues.
  • Lead the clinical consulting, medical and surgical rota.
  • Act as a Vet GDP advisor, supporting new graduates.
  • Promote excellent communication between hospital team and practice.
  • Encourage a positive, productive working environment in collaboration with the Head Vet and Hospital Manager.
  • Foster a culture of excellent working relationships and high morale.
  • Promote GP veterinarians’ participation in clinical CPD through monthly journal club.

Experience & Qualifications

  • VetGDP completed, experience as an experienced veterinary surgeon ideally from a hospital background, proficiency in a fast‑paced hospital environment is required.

Rota

  • A 6‑weekly rotational basis with an average of 40 hours per week, including a 1:3 Saturday and 1:6 Sunday weekend rotation.
  • Up to 2 bank holidays per year and inclusion in last‑resort on‑call rotation.

Benefits

  • Salary band £60,000 - £80,000 FTE per annum, dependent on prior experience.
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays.
  • Private medical insurance with BUPA.
  • Annual CPD allowance up to £2,000 plus up to 5 paid CPD days.
  • Relocation assistance (where applicable).

Location

Wanstead is located outside of London, with good transport links to Central Line tube stations. No on‑site parking available; public transport recommended.
