Nestled in a popular and attractive area in London near Islington, and adjacent to Canonbury over ground station is our little GP Highbury clinic that has been a constant beating heart in the community for years. This established practice is looking for a charismatic sole charge vet to charm our Highbury clients and their beloved pets, providing exceptional first opinion care on a 4-day week basis.

Highbury has a strong bond with their clients, and we are looking for a vet who can continue this relationship in this GP role, performing first opinion consults and minor surgeries, with the triage of emergencies when applicable. Highbury would be ideal for a confident vet happy in a sole charge position with a consult focused diary, who is looking for a long-term role they can settle in and play an integral part in the local community.

The rota involves Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, plus a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:8 Wanstead Hospital Sunday rotation, and up to 2 bank holidays per year.

  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate, comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
  • Work alongside your RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and the clinics SOP’s are being actioned.
  • Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.

You will also have the addition of support from the nearby "mini hub" Hackney practice and Wanstead 24-hour Hospital, for more complex cases, surgeries and OOH care for your patients.

The salary band for this sole charge position is £60,000 to £75,000 FTE depending on prior experience and allowing room for growth within the role.

  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays
  • Generous relocation assistance (where applicable)
  • Up to £2,000 CPD budget every year plus up to 5 days' paid CPD leave
