Welcome to Shenfield! This impressive first opinion practice in the heart of popular Brentwood in Essex is looking for an additional vet to join their already experienced clinical team.

Shenfield is a very popular practice and therefore it has a great caseload for surgical and medical cases. Due to the nature of the caseload we are looking for a vet who is confident in all routine GP surgery. As well as everything you would expect in a busy first opinion practice, Shenfield also has ultrasound and K-Laser facilities. You will be surrounded by a highly experienced team with multiple RVN’s and support colleagues, and a part-time senior vet. You will also be supported by a dedicated regional manager whose support is invaluable to her branches in the region, and a regional head vet for any clinical queries you may have.

There can be flexible options with this position; either 1 full-time vet over 4-days, or 2 part-time vets, meaning there would be just 1 full day of sole charge. The role includes a 1:4 Saturday rotation, and a 1:8 Wanstead Hospital Sunday rotation plus 1-2 bank holidays per year and being included in the last resort on-call rotation.

As part of your initial induction period, you will be given the opportunity to spend a day in the hospital to meet the team and get au-fait with your surroundings. As a branch veterinary surgeon, some of your duties will include:

  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform GP surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.

Shenfield’s location is ideal! You are a 5-minute drive from bustling Brentwood High-street, you have the countryside on your doorstep and are only an 8-minute walk from Shenfield station on the Elizabeth Line, taking you straight into central London, meaning you really do have the best of both with this location.

Now let’s delve into the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:

The salary band for this position depending on prior experience and allowing room for growth within the role is £45,000 to £72,000 (full-time equivalent based on 40-hours per week).

A little snippet of the benefits you will receive as a Goddard vet:

  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays (pro rata if part-time)
  • Generous relocation assistance (where applicable)
