This role focuses on designing, developing, and deploying automated solutions for our production database infrastructure including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Cassandra systems. You'll architect and build software that ensures the reliability, scalability, and performance of databases supporting both corporate applications and customer hosting services. You'll be developing tools and services for potentially the biggest WordPress fleet in existence, building software that manages infrastructure for over a million databases.

What you'll get to do...

  • Engineer CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using infrastructure as code practices to improve security posture and operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain automation scripts and applications in Golang and Bash for database operations, upgrades, and configuration management.
  • Architect and implement solutions for migrating database infrastructure to modernized virtual machine environments as part of our one-system initiative.
  • Develop monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to track system performance and ensure high availability of database clusters.
  • Integrate with configuration management systems such as Salt and Puppet to enable scalable infrastructure automation.
  • Contribute to on-call rotation (secondary week, primary week, then project work cycle) with emphasis on building solutions that prevent future incidents.

Your experience should include...

  • 2+ years in Golang with demonstrated experience building production-grade applications and services.
  • 2+ years of experience working with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) OR NoSQL databases (Cassandra), including understanding of deployment, configuration, and management at scale.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing REST APIs and backend services.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and continuous deployment workflows.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix systems and developing software that operates at scale.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, SaltStack, or Puppet.

You might also have...

  • Experience with Python for automation and tooling.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building and running testing infrastructure and frameworks.
  • Exposure to compute platforms such as OpenStack or AWS.
