This is the first design hire - there is no existing design function. Design decisions have been made ad hoc by the CEO and engineering team. Your mission: own product design end-to-end for a data-dense, power-user platform and set the quality bar for the next phase of growth. You are a hands-on, autonomous founding designer - not a manager (yet). You will own the full surface: interaction design, visual/UI craft, end-to-end flows, and the lightweight research that informs them. The product is genuinely hard to design - real-time market microstructure, dense charting, trade execution, multi-asset data - and the bar is professional traders who live in this tool all day. You report to the CEO initially, transitioning to the Head of Product once that role is filled. Success in Year 1: a measurably better, more coherent product experience and the foundations of a design practice (system, patterns, process) that scales.

What you'll do:

  • Own product design end-to-end - research -> interaction -> high-fidelity UI -> engineering hand-off, for web and mobile, working directly with a small, senior engineering team and the CEO/CTO.
  • Drive the US-first growth surfaces - rebrand, signup and onboarding funnel, conversion and upgrade flows, pricing - designed for measurable funnel improvement.
  • Raise the quality bar - directly attack the top user complaints (clarity, performance perception, workflow friction) through targeted redesign.
  • Make complex data legible - design power-user workflows for orderflow, DOM, footprint/cluster charts, volume/market profile, and trade execution without dumbing them down.
  • Establish a lightweight design system - components, patterns, and tokens that a growing engineering team can build against consistently.
  • Design AI-feature surfaces - the interaction patterns for embedded assistive AI (microstructure interpretation, review, alerts) as those capabilities ship.

What we’re looking for:

Must-haves:

  • 5+ years in product design, with a portfolio of 3-4 products you shipped end-to-end (not concepts, not redesign exercises) - you own both interaction and visual craft.
  • Demonstrated comfort with complex, technical, data-dense, or power-user products - trading/charting/market-data, analytics/BI, dev-tools, or comparable. You can make dense information clear without flattening it.
  • Founding-designer mindset - moves fluidly between strategy and pixels, ships without a design manager, comfortable as the only designer on a constrained engineering team.
  • Strong visual and interaction craft - your work is polished, consistent, and accessible, not just functional.
  • Expert in Figma; fluent in modern hand-off and design-system practice.
  • EU/US timezone overlap; written-first, async-friendly communicator.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Domain knowledge of trading / financial markets - you know what a footprint chart, volume profile, DOM, or cumulative delta is, or can demonstrably ramp fast.
  • Has built a design system from scratch.
  • Freemium B2C SaaS conversion / funnel-optimization experience.
  • Has worked effectively with a small (3-5 person) engineering team under capacity constraints.

Logistics:

  • EU/UK timezone, fully remote.
  • Full-Time (via EOR).
  • No travel / light at start, reassessed as team scales - occasional Chennai (engineering), US (partners, conferences), EU (leadership).
  • Start date ASAP.
