The role
This role sits in a small operational team of credit risk underwriters, safeguarding our financial health by ensuring robust credit evaluation and proactive risk management. The team ensures that GC adopts, implements and maintains appropriate credit controls with the aim of managing credit losses whilst supporting revenue growth. The core of the role is assessing and managing the credit risk associated with GC’s merchant base. You will be responsible for evaluating creditworthiness, conducting risk assessments, and developing creative strategies to mitigate potential credit losses. This role will suit someone who is comfortable with a high degree of autonomy, can pick up the basics quickly and is comfortable owning their decisions.
What excites you
Understanding new and existing business models with meticulous attention to detail. You’ll be expected to get underneath and look beyond the numbers when assessing creditworthiness for SMEs and Large corporates. Core responsibilities are:
- Perform credit risk reviews and high risk onboarding processes that evaluate creditworthiness of prospective customers and risks associated with sales deals. Advise sales leadership on risk-adjusted pricing as needed.
- Review complex credit decisions and escalations, making final determinations on approvals or conditions, escalating to management as needed.
- Operate processes that manage existing customer risk, including requests for limit increases, changes to holding periods or new product access.
- Perform continuous monitoring of existing portfolios, adapting limits, holding periods, cash covers or other mitigation tools as appropriate.
- Respond quickly to risk alerts to prevent or minimize company losses.
- Participate in Exec. level deal reviews as needed.
What excites us
- You’ve had previous experience in a role where you were directly responsible for credit underwriting, working in a B2B environment of comparable scale.
- You have deep and broad experience in analysing financial statements for SMEs and Large Corporations to make effective credit risk decisions, with the ability to compute financial ratios whilst applying industry context.
- You have a good understanding of risks inherent to a bank-to-bank payments business, such as chargebacks, and you have practical experience in risk management.
- You are proficient in leveraging data analytics and BI tools.
- Your stakeholder management is excellent, and you are able to build strong working relationships with commercial teams.
- You are a strong, confident communicator, with the ability to influence stakeholders across the business, including CxO and senior management.
- You have a meticulous attention to detail.
- You are able to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines and act with independent judgement on relative priority of tasks.

Salary and benefits
Base salary ranges are based on role, job level, location, and market data. Please note that whilst we strive to offer competitive compensation, our approach is to pay between the minimum and the mid-point (£48,000 – £60,000) of the pay range until performance can be assessed in role. Offers will take into account level of experience, interview assessment, budgets and parity between you and fellow employees at GoCardless doing similar work.
