About Goalhanger

Location: Oval, London (Office-Based)

Role Type: Full-time Paid Trainee

Start: September 2026

At Goalhanger, we make some of the most popular podcasts in the world. You’ve likely heard of our 'The Rest Is...' series, covering History, Politics, Football, Money, and Entertainment. Our hosts are the biggest names in UK media - Gary Lineker, Rory Stewart, Katty Kay, Richard Osman, and Steph McGovern, to name just a few.

Our passion is intelligent, entertaining conversation that builds a meaningful relationship with the listener. In the last few years, our shows have evolved beyond audio. They are global media brands spanning audio, video, written word, and live events, with an active community of paying members.

To support this growth, we are evolving our trainee program. Successful candidates will spend time across different areas of the business and get a grounding in both making our shows and monetising them effectively.

The Role

A 360° Media Trainee Scheme. This isn't a "sit in the back of the studio" internship. This is a broad-ranging trainee scheme designed to give you a front-row seat to every pillar of a modern media business. Over the course of the program, you will rotate through and support various departments, including Production, Digital, and Community.

On any given week, you might be:

  • Content Production: Researching topics for the "Rest Is..." series, facilitating recordings across the UK, or assisting a live YouTube stream reacting to breaking news.
  • Written & Digital: Drafting newsletters, writing sharp episode titles/descriptions, and crafting engaging articles that expand on our podcast discussions.
  • Audience & Memberships: Learning our growing community platforms, handling listener correspondence, and helping develop exclusive perks for our members.
  • Technical production: Learning the basics of audio/video editing and ensuring our content is delivered seamlessly across all global platforms.
  • Commercial: Supporting our sales and delivery teams to fulfil our commercial obligations.

Requirements

What We Are Looking For

Most technical skills can be taught, but passion for the medium is a non-negotiable. We want ambitious, curious, and adaptable individuals who want to learn how a media business works across different departments.

The Essentials:

  • A Passion for Long-form Content: You love deep-dive conversations and have a genuine interest in the worlds of entertainment, history, politics, or sport.
  • Versatile Communication: You are as comfortable writing a witty newsletter as you are talking to a high-profile guest in a studio.
  • Adaptability: You thrive in a fast-paced "always-on" environment where the schedule can shift with the news cycle.
  • Proactive Mindset: You don’t wait to be told what to do; you look for ways to make our content better.
  • A Demonstrable Interest: Whether it’s a student radio show, a Substack, a YouTube channel, or a TikTok feed, you’ve already started making things.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be learning on the job in one of the most exciting companies in media. For those willing to put the work in, the opportunities for progression come quickly. You’ll gain a holistic understanding of how a modern media brand makes money, builds community, and stays at the top of the charts.

How to Apply

In your covering letter, please include the following:

  • Tell us one thing you’ve enjoyed and one thing you haven’t enjoyed in a recent Goalhanger podcast episode, and explain why.
  • Briefly tell us which area of the business you are most curious about and why.
  • If given the choice which of our shows would you like to work on?

Note: This role is based full-time in our Kennington, London office. Proficiency in audio or video editing is a plus but not required.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Goalhanger is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, communities, and experiences.

Adjustments & Accessibility

We want our recruitment process to be as accessible as possible. If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the application or interview process, please let us know and we will be happy to discuss how we can support you.
