As Design Manager, you will lead and develop a multi-disciplinary design team, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, and innovative engineering solutions across utility infrastructure projects. You will provide technical leadership throughout the design lifecycle, driving quality, governance, and continuous improvement while working closely with clients, operational teams, and external stakeholders to deliver projects efficiently and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish design principles, standards and governance across all platforms and services
- Recruit, mentor and inspire a high-performing design team
- Monitor leading industry practices, recommend new design approaches, and identify upcoming trends.
- Collaborate with both internal design team, client design team and external consultants to execute creative projects
- Providing technical design support to the design team on complex projects
- Oversee the full design lifecycle – from concept through delivery
- Complete design reviews in accordance with the client’s design standards
- Responding to and resolving issues with external parties such as the client, third party organisations & sub-contractors
- Simplify complex processes into clear, accessible, and user-friendly experiences.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and ensure design supports compliance
- Represent the company at client meetings.
- Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 throughout the design process.
Experience and Qualifications
- A Degree/HND/HNC in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in a senior engineering position.
- Experience of managing design teams.
- Demonstrated experience of working in the utility industry
- Experience in personnel management.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking and impactful design solutions
- Technical competence with various water and wastewater processes.
- Proven track record of delivering large scale projects at a capital level
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
- A mindset that balances creative design solutions with commercial awareness
- Understanding and knowledge of relevant Engineering specifications that apply to the utility industry
- Expert user of Autodesk Products
