Role Overview
As a marketing and PR officer you will be responsible for communicating key messages and promoting a positive image of the company. Day‑to‑day duties include writing press releases, liaising with local and national press, and coordinating messaging on websites, social media and in print.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and carrying out PR campaigns and strategies
- Monitoring public and media opinion of the company
- Writing and editing press releases, leaflets, brochures, speeches, newsletters, website and social media content
- Utilising all forms of media to build, maintain and manage the portrayal of the business
- Representing the company at events
- Acting as a spokesperson for the company’s brand
- Training employees on handling media enquiries and press interviews
- Developing good working relationships with the media and liaising with press on news stories
- Writing and editing in‑house magazines, case studies and annual reports
- Managing and updating client’s social media posts
- Devising and coordinating photo opportunities
- Managing, arranging and overseeing events
- Monitoring publicity and press coverage
- Commissioning market research
- Coordinating paid and unpaid advertising
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Undergraduate degree in English, marketing and communications, public relations, advertising, business and management, psychology, or a construction or IT‑related subject
- College or training provider course in marketing, public relations, business studies or psychology
- Professional qualifications from CIPR, CIM or CAM
- Apprenticeship as a marketing assistant or administrator in a construction company
- 4–5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A*‑to‑C) and A‑levels, or equivalent, for higher or degree apprenticeships
- 2–3 A‑levels, or equivalent, for a degree, or a degree in any subject for a postgraduate course
Experience
- Work experience in marketing or PR – internships, volunteer work, writing for student publications, or social media promotion of local charities
- Relevant office experience in a construction site may be required
- Ability to provide references or a portfolio of work

Potential Salary
- £25,000 for newly trained PR officers
- Up to £45,000 for experienced PR officers (salary depends on location, employer, level of responsibility and any overtime)
