Who are we

An opportunity has arisen to join the Commercial Department’s team of operating Controllers. These roles are to be carried out as a supplement to your usual occupation.

The bulk of the work carried out by the department is Rail Replacement, but no less important is covering work for TFL Overground, Underground and Trams. As well as Rail Replacement, we provide shuttle and park and ride services for various national events and several private sector company bus shuttle contracts.

Responsibilities

Your role as Controller will be to control and monitor the bus services from specific points – this could be a railway station or some other location.

You will be required to complete certain documentation dependent upon the job you are allocated and must be in possession of a mobile telephone which allows the download of Go-Ahead company apps.

This is a customer-facing role and involves liaising directly with the public, railway station staff, officials, and contract clients. It is essential therefore that you have a friendly and helpful demeanor which can be maintained even whilst working under pressure.

Most duties are Rail Replacement Control and will fall on a Saturday or Sunday, although certain jobs require weekday or overnight working. Most jobs are either an early or a late turn, so you must be prepared to work either.

Applications are also open to all Go-Ahead London staff; however, if you are currently in a driving role, before volunteering for any control work, you must seek permission from your home garage first. You must continue to adhere to the rest periods/rest days in respect of drivers’ hours legislation.

Remuneration for this role is set at £16.60 per hour (this includes £2.00 per hour in lieu of accruing holiday entitlement with a £40 allowance payable under certain circumstances).

PLEASE NOTE: Due to this being an ongoing recruitment process, we will be processing applications every SIX months, starting from January 2021.

Qualifications

Full training will be given, and you must be prepared to commit to working at least ten days per annum.
