OCC Engineer – Operational Control Centre. Engineering expertise. Real-time decisions. Network-wide impact. We’re looking for an experienced bus engineer to join our Operations Control Centre (OCC) as a technical specialist supporting the live London bus network. This is not a workshop role. You’ll be the engineering expert at the heart of operations — diagnosing faults remotely, guiding controllers and drivers, and making fast, safe decisions that keep services moving. If you enjoy problem-solving under pressure and want to influence outcomes across the entire fleet, this role offers something genuinely different.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing real-time technical assessments of on-road breakdowns and vehicle defects
- Using Geotab, Tranzaura and live data to diagnose faults and assess risk
- Deciding the right response: remote reset, driver instruction, roadside attendance, recovery or vehicle swap
- Acting as the engineering authority within the Control Centre, advising iBus Controllers and operational teams
- Speaking directly with drivers — giving clear, calm technical guidance
- Liaising with garages and roadside engineers to ensure smooth handovers
- Identifying repeat faults, trends and reliability issues to support continuous improvement
Essential: What we’re looking for
- Strong engineering knowledge across modern bus fleets (including hybrid and electric)
- Proven diagnostic skills and confidence making decisions remotely
- Experience using telematics or inspection systems (Geotab, Tranzaura or similar)
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- Flexibility to work shifts (weekends)
