To lead and embed a proactive safety and risk culture across all operational sites, ensuring full compliance with legal obligations and industry standards. The role will drive strategic safety initiatives, reduce on road risk, and support the company’s commitment to safe, sustainable, and customer-focused transport services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and ensure successful implementation and management of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Develop and implement a company-wide Health & Safety strategy aligned with business goals and Transport for London (TfL) standards.
- Advise the Executive Team on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and safety performance.
- Lead the integration of safety into transformation programs, including fleet electrification and digital innovation.
- Lead and guide the risk and H&S team under the roles leadership.
- Ensure robust Safety Management Systems (SMS) are in place and regularly audited.
- Oversee major incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Monitor and improve safety KPIs, including accident frequency rates, near misses, and compliance scores.
- Support the operational teams with risk reduction plans and initiatives to improve on road safety performance.
- Work closely with the area managers to respond to regulatory bodies on matters regarding safety and compliance – in particular the Traffic Commissioner and HSE.
- Champion a behavioural safety culture across all depots and operational teams.
- Design and deliver safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and leadership engagement programs.
- Hold senior managers accountable for safety performance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation, Road Traffic Safety Management Systems, and ISO standards.
- Liaise with external bodies including HSE, TfL, and local authorities during audits and inspections.
- Maintain readiness for emergency response and crisis management.
- Support the safe rollout of zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with ESG teams to align safety with environmental and social governance goals.
- Contribute to Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements.
- Work closely with the Group HSQE team to collaborate and share best practice.
