In this crucial supervisory role, you\’ll be at the heart of ensuring a consistent and reliable bus service that millions of Londoners depend on every day.
About the Role: As an iBus Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing and controlling our bus services using cutting-edge computer, GPS, and communication systems. Your mission? To deliver a high-quality service that meets and exceeds the standards set by Go-Ahead London and London Buses. You will work with a wide range of teams and external partners, including police, highway authorities, and our valued customers, ensuring smooth operations even in challenging situations.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Service Management: Use iBus technology to ensure regular, reliable bus services with no avoidable gaps, bunching, or early running.
- Driver Supervision: Oversee driver colleagues, ensuring compliance with schedules, company rules, and legal requirements. You\’ll also provide support, including reporting service quality data and submitting disciplinary reports when necessary.
- Collaboration: Work closely with garage administration, engineering teams, and external authorities to minimise disruptions and optimise service.
- Emergency Response: Handle emergency situations, such as accidents and road closures, with confidence and efficiency.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with Drivers’ Hours Regulations, health and safety rules, and other relevant legislation.
- Customer Interaction: Address customer queries, comments, and complaints with professionalism and a customer-first approach.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and concise records of decisions and events on your routes.
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience & Knowledge: A strong understanding of a control room environment is beneficial.
- Communication Skills: Clear, concise, and respectful communication is key, both in writing and over the phone/radio.
- Decision-Making: Confident in making quick, effective decisions, with a strong ability to learn and adapt on the job. Situations unfold quickly!
- Team Player: You’ll work across multiple teams and must be approachable, adaptable, and willing to embrace diversity and new technology.
- Target-Driven: Motivated to achieve and exceed performance targets, with a focus on maximising service efficiency.
Working Conditions
- Flexibility will be required with travel to work locations across South and East London. When our refurbishment programme is completed, the role will be located in Stockwell.
- This is a shift-based role that includes weekends, requiring flexibility in working hours and location.
- You will undergo a comprehensive training program.
- As part of the Recruitment process candidates will be required to undertake an online assessment to determine suitability for the role.
