Engineering Supervisor (NIGHTS) – New Cross
Go‑Ahead London is the capital’s largest bus operator, employing over 8,000 colleagues across 17 garages and Head Office, mostly based in Southeast, Southwest, Northeast, and East London. We are an award‑winning company with a highly regarded reputation and most of our colleagues are professional bus drivers, responsible for safely delivering millions of passengers every year.
Responsibilities
- Allocate work and duties to the engineering team to ensure sufficient vehicles to provide the required service.
- Ensure the engineering team effectively and efficiently deliver planned and unplanned maintenance and that all vehicle wheels are checked and torqued.
- Deliver and manage the PVR (Peak Vehicle Requirement) daily, working cooperatively with the Operations Teams.
- Review vehicles, assign a status to each ensuring unsafe and unfit vehicles do not enter service, and log any mileage lost, highlighting specific mileage challenges.
- Undertake frequent and regular reviews of the facilities and workshop, including general housekeeping and reporting of any facility issues and defects.
- Ensure any visitors or contractors in the engineering department have the necessary permits to work and supervise any engineering contractors.
- Carry out quality checks on all vehicles to ensure they meet both DVSA and company standards.
- Manage the workshop engineers working during the night shift, ensuring they have the skills and ability to perform their role, including performance management and ensuring productive time at work.
Qualifications
Essential experience of managing a team of engineers and motivating colleagues to deliver required vehicle maintenance. Ability to work under pressure and without close supervision, showing initiative and flexibility. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a quick learning ability for unique technologies. Ideally a member of the IRTE or hold another relevant professional qualification; interest in emerging technologies and electric vehicles is an advantage.
Salary: £62,250 pa plus benefits including a pension scheme, and travel pass for London Buses and the Tube Network.
