We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Mental Health Solicitor with Law Society Mental Health Accreditation to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor looking for career progression into a supervisory role, overseeing our Bedford office and supporting a well-established Mental Health Department.
About the Role
You will take responsibility for supervising the Bedford office, which currently supports a busy and growing caseload across the Midlands and East of England (ME procurement area). The team includes three paralegals based in the Bedford area, and you will provide guidance, supervision, and support to ensure excellent client service and compliance with professional standards. You will be supported and supervised by the Head of Mental Health, who will be in attendance at the Bedford office weekly to begin with. The role is hybrid, with flexibility to work remotely. Attendance at the Bedford office once a week will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the mental health team in Bedford, including training and supporting paralegals
- Handle a caseload of mental health tribunal and related matters
- Maintain compliance with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements and firm policies
- Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the Mental Health Department
- Liaise effectively with clients, hospitals, and other stakeholders across the Midlands and East region.
About You
- Qualified Solicitor with current Law Society Mental Health Accreditation
- 2+ years PQE (preferred) with experience handling mental health tribunal work
- Strong supervisory or mentoring skills, with an interest in developing others
- Excellent communication, organisation, and case management skills
- A driving licence and car would be desirable due to the area covered
- Self-motivated and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team.
