GMP Worldwide are recruiting on behalf of a highly established aerospace manufacturing business for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of health, safety and occupational risk across a complex, high-hazard manufacturing environment. This is a senior and highly influential position, responsible for developing and continuously improving the company's Health & Safety management systems while ensuring full compliance with UK legislation. The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Leadership Team and operational departments including manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, laboratories, warehousing and office functions. You will provide both strategic leadership and practical, hands-on support, helping to maintain a proactive safety culture and ensuring employees, contractors and visitors operate within a safe and well-controlled working environment. As Health & Safety Manager, your responsibilities will include: Developing and implementing the site's Health & Safety strategy in line with wider business objectives. Acting as the site's competent Health & Safety person and providing professional advice to directors and senior management. Promoting a proactive and positive safety culture through visible leadership, communication and employee engagement. Ensuring compliance with applicable UK Health & Safety legislation and maintaining appropriate compliance registers. Leading the site's risk assessment programme and reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work. Monitoring and controlling significant hazards associated with a high-hazard manufacturing environment. Leading investigations into accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences using appropriate root cause analysis techniques. Supporting the integration of Health & Safety systems alongside ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 . Managing internal and external Health & Safety audits and ensuring corrective actions are completed. Developing policies, procedures, standards and working practices. Managing occupational health and health surveillance programmes. Identifying training requirements and delivering Health & Safety training and site inductions. Reviewing contractor RAMS and maintaining effective contractor control procedures. Carrying out site inspections, audits and contractor compliance checks. Liaising with external bodies including the Health and Safety Executive, Fire Authorities and other regulatory organisations where required. Key areas of risk The successful candidate will play a leading role in managing risks associated with: Investment casting and foundry processes. Compressed gases. Electrical safety. Confined spaces. Manual handling. Contractor activity. Our client is looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who is comfortable operating within a demanding engineering or manufacturing environment. A recognised NEBOSH qualification is essential for this position and applicants without a NEBOSH qualification will not be considered. Significant Health & Safety experience within manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, foundry, heavy industry or another high-hazard environment. Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation. Experience managing risk assessments, safe systems of work and occupational safety programmes. Experience investigating incidents and completing root cause analysis. Experience managing occupational health and health surveillance programmes. The ability to influence behaviours and develop a strong safety culture. A practical, visible and hands-on approach to Health & Safety.
