GMP Recruitment are proud to be partnered with a highly respected Legal 500 and Chambers UK recognised law firm in the recruitment of a Duty Solicitor to join their expanding Criminal Defence team based in St Albans. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Criminal Solicitor to join a dynamic and award-winning firm renowned for its commitment to access to justice and expertise across criminal defence, family law, housing, civil liberties and human rights.
The successful candidate will join a busy and supportive Crime Team, managing a varied caseload of criminal defence matters while representing clients across police stations and Magistrates’ Courts. Key responsibilities will include:
- Representing clients detained at police stations
- Managing a caseload covering a broad range of criminal offences
- Conducting advocacy within the Magistrates’ Court, including summary trials
- Attending Crown Court hearings where applicable (for candidates with Higher Rights)
- Delivering exceptional client care in often high-pressure situations
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants should:
- Be a qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year PQE in criminal law
- Hold Duty Solicitor accreditation preferred, although not essential
- Have strong advocacy and communication skills
- Be confident managing a demanding caseload independently
- Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Be IT proficient and comfortable using case management systems
- Possess a calm, pragmatic and professional approach
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for publicly funded criminal defence work
- Be capable of building strong relationships with both clients and colleagues
