The Homelessness team is at the forefront of Greater Manchester’s innovative interventions to end homelessness. With the current high profile of Rough Sleeping at a national government level and with GM being held as an example of best practice, there has never been a better time to join our team. We need your help to deliver our ongoing work and projects that aim to both prevent homelessness and to support people experiencing homelessness across our city region.

We work alongside our local councils, the voluntary sector and a range of other partners to set the regional ambition to try to prevent homelessness where it occurs and when it does occur ensure it is rare, brief, and non-recurrent. Our work is shaped by listening to people with lived experience of homelessness to make sure our services are best fit to meet the needs of people who require support.

If you want a role where you can learn new skills and confidence, further your career at the same time as supporting people to escape from homelessness then what are you waiting for?

About you:

  • We especially encourage you to apply if you have lived experience of homelessness and/or housing instability, and an understanding of how these experiences have affected you.
  • You will be open to talking, listening, and responding to what others say to help deliver better services for people experiencing homelessness and to help your own professional development by learning from others.
  • You will enjoy trying things that are new and doing things differently that will challenge you and the system.
  • You take pride in your work and demonstrate this by always giving your best.
  • You show qualities that are valued including integrity, reliability, self-motivation, and a positive attitude.
  • You treat everyone with respect and dignity and like working with people from multiple backgrounds and with different experiences and opinions.

We encourage applications from all suitably qualified individuals, irrespective of people's age, disability, Trans status and Non-binary identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.

We have guidance in place to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly and consistently at every stage of the recruitment process, including the consideration of reasonable adjustments for people who have a disability.

Our offer:

In return for your hard work, we offer our employees a competitive package as part of our offer.

Hybrid working:

This role is part of GMCA’s hybrid working scheme. As part of our commitment to ‘Build Back Fairer’ in Greater Manchester following the Covid-19 pandemic, we have evolved our management methods by trusting and empowering staff to deliver their work in the best way that suits the business and their individual needs, and supports health and wellbeing.

Our hybrid working policy sets out a flexible approach, combining attendance at our Manchester city centre office, allocated GM Local Authority office(s), or on site in the community, with remote working, typically from home (within a reasonable commutable distance from Greater Manchester); the location of work is primarily dictated by the needs of the business: ‘Do what is right for you and the business on that day’. If appointed to the role you will work with your manager to agree and regularly review the best working pattern for you, your team and your work.
