Are you a strategic leader with a passion for driving excellence in governance, risk management, and assurance? The GMCA Group is seeking an outstanding individual to join us as our new Assistant Director, Internal Audit (Group). This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the internal audit teams across GMCA, GMFRS, TfGM, and GMP. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring robust governance and effective risk management, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and statutory officers. Your work will promote transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across a diverse and complex group of organisations.
About you:
- Lead and inspire high-performing internal audit teams, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Develop and deliver a group-wide internal audit strategy aligned with organisational objectives and stakeholder expectations.
- Advise senior management and Audit Committees, ensuring compliance with professional standards and legislation.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement, sharing best practice and addressing shared risks across the group.
- Oversee counter fraud and whistleblowing arrangements, and lead on complex investigations when required.
- Champion ethical standards, inclusivity, and sustainability in all aspects of your work.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience leading internal audit services in the public sector.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and teams in complex environments.
- Relevant professional qualification (CMIIA, CIA, CIPFA, ICAEW) and current membership of a recognised body.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative, adaptable leader committed to continuous improvement and organisational development.
