GMBs Southern Region is seeking applications for the role of Regional Organiser x3. GMB is one of the UK and Ireland’s largest trade unions; we’re proud to represent over half a million people from across the professional spectrum and all walks of life. The successful candidates will be based at the following workplaces:
- 1 based in Swindon
- 1 based in Reading
- 1 based in Welling
However, candidates should be aware that they may be required to work from any location within the region, at the discretion of the Regional Secretary, in order to meet the needs of the region.
Applicants must be enthusiastic and energetic, able to motivate and mobilise and have a strong desire to build and grow the Union. They should be able to demonstrate that they are a good team player, but also be able to work on their own initiative.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following, which should be included in the candidate statement section of the application form:
- A thorough understanding of organising, mobilising, and campaigning.
- A history of successful organising, mobilising, and campaigning, including developing the skills of others.
- A thorough understanding and proven record of recruiting members into a trade union.
- Excellent communication skills including press, media, report writing and public speaking.
- Knowledge and experience of individual representation, negotiations, and collective bargaining.
- Knowledge and experience of employment law industrial relations practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of and demonstrable commitment to equalities, proportionality, and fair representation.
- An understanding of GMB, its rules, policies, and structure.
Other Information: The hours of work for the role are unspecified and will necessarily entail an element of unsocial hours, including weekend work. Periods of working away from home will also be required. The successful candidate will be allocated a fleet car as there will be a need for travel to other offices and workplaces across the Region, so prospective candidates are required to be in possession of a full current driving license.
