The role:
With significant investment planned in all UK&I businesses to transform, deliver new digital services to the business' customers, streamline, and automate business processes, whilst ensuring the continued stability and performance of the legacy platforms. This is an opportunity for an experienced Principal Engineer to join the Engineering Leadership team, to help lead delivery of the digital roadmap, develop people and capabilities, and help set engineering strategy to drive improvements across all teams. The focus is on building out the Single Digital Platform, centred around Salesforce, but involving a significant .NET estate and use of Azure services.
What you'll be doing:
- Responsibility for the definition, design and communication of complex IT solutions across a range of technology platforms.
- Leading engineering teams, being hands-on to set best practices and ensure correct designs and implementation, and taking ownership of meeting delivery outcomes as per the product roadmap.
- Inspiring excellence in the teams and driving improvements in employee engagement, performance, and wellbeing.
- Assessing new technology solutions to meet business requirements.
- Ensuring that non-functional requirements are met regarding performance, scalability, resilience, and GRC requirements (Information security, risk, industry regulation compliance).
- Helping to encourage collaboration and product ownership across developers and testers.
- Ensuring continual shift of secure, quality and tested code activity left.
- Working to improve and ensure implementation of the SDLC.
- Working in a multi-vendor environment, providing direction and support to the delivery teams.
- Improving the core DORA metrics and ensuring optimal flow through the systems and processes.
What you'll bring:
- Proven experience building and leading high performing engineering teams.
- Expertise in at least one of Azure/.NET, or Salesforce technology ecosystems, experience in both preferred.
- Experience designing and delivering complex solutions to time and budget, being accountable for outcomes not output.
- Proven experience in being responsible for application estates that manage high volumes delivering critical business value, with experience of doing this in the financial services sector a plus.
- Strong stakeholder management across a variety of business domains.
- Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and their potential to deliver business benefits.
- Ability to translate business strategy into technical solutions and business requirements into technical design.
- Experience working in Agile environments and a deep understanding of how to ensure optimum flow of work through the full SDLC.
- Prior experience working in a product-centric organisation preferred.
